Patatas Meléndez chooses Wyma to create the best potato facility in the industry

The new potato facility located in Medina del Campo, Valladolid (Spain), will be a key asset in a wider project that will involve the complete digitalisation of Meléndez’s production process.

“In choosing our partner, we had a number of key criteria,” says Javier Meléndez, general manager of Patatas Meléndez. “Among them were the quality of the machinery, the safety of the line and personnel, very gentle handling of the potatoes, the efficiency of the line and intelligent automation. Wyma Europe met and demonstrated these key criteria,” added Mr Meléndez.

“The new plant will incorporate the latest technology available on the market today. This will include world-leading potato pre-sorting, washing/polishing and optical sorting solutions to maximise potato yields, an automated crate storage and handling system (supplied by Deprez Construct), multiple new packaging lines and an automation system that will allow Patatas Melendez to continue its digitisation journey,” adds Mr Gerrie.

Wyma will complete the design, manufacture and installation of the machinery in the coming months, and the plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2022.
