foodtruck

Patatas Meléndez set up our foodtruck at the Ifema field hospital to deliver 800 food packs a day as a donation for the fight against COVID-19.

Patatas Meléndez has launched a plan of action and donations against COVID-19. In addition to the delivery to needy groups in Madrid through the Madrid City Council and the Food Bank of thousands of kilos of potatoes delivered so far, we will continue to provide this aid periodically in the coming weeks. A foodtruck has now been set up in Ifema where food will be offered daily to the volunteers in the field hospital set up there.

The installation of this food stall has been carried out in conjunction with the Health Department of the Community of Madrid in response to the call for solidarity made by the same. The Patatas Meléndez foodtruck at Ifema will dispense 800 meals a day for 400 volunteers. A total of 800 sandwiches (Serrano, ham/cheese, potato omelette) per day, which will alternate with other options to make the menu more varied throughout the days.

This picnic pack will be completed by 800 bottles of water per day and bags of crisp snacks. In addition, there will be potatoes with sauces, a ready-made product that is a trademark of the company. The aim is to introduce a natural and hot food to break the monotony.

A device that has been set up in record time and which aims to respond to the need to feed the people who are working on the front line in the battle against the coronavirus in the field hospital set up in Ifema.

Commitment, security, donations and guarantee of supply

At Patatas Meléndez we reaffirm our commitment to making basic foodstuffs available to everyone. A responsibility as an essential service that we are facing with all the guarantees of occupational safety against COVID-19 for workers, collaborators in the value chain and end consumers.

Other initiatives that we are developing at Patatas Meléndez during this crisis are the donation of 44,000 kg of potatoes to the Latina and Hortaleza Council of the Madrid City Council, with the aim of helping many families in need; and 22,000 kg to the Food Bank, an organisation to which we will continue to deliver goods.

In addition, in view of the increase in demand for basic necessities, and potatoes being one of the main products, we have started to sell a 10 kg box of potatoes from Spain in our online shop to make it easier for people to buy them for their confinement.

In the words of Javier Meléndez, CEO, “we have launched this powerful donation plan in line with our responsibility as a company in the agri-food industry. Our work forms part of the essential activities under the state of alarm decree, and in addition to providing the best service to homebound consumers both from our online shop and by guaranteeing distribution to physical points of sale, Patatas Meléndez has set out to ensure that healthcare workers, volunteers and the most disadvantaged people affected by the COVID- 19 crisis can have basic staple foods within their reach. This is an unprecedented moment and we feel that we must do our utmost to fulfil our commitment to feeding people”.
