All of Patatas Meléndez’s waste is now recycled or recovered: a further step in our sustainability plan.

100% recyclable or recoverable waste: this is the commitment of Patatas Meléndez, leader in the potato sector, which it has just adopted as part of the sustainability plan aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Global Compact.

From now on, no waste derived from the work of Patatas Meléndez will end up in a landfill. All of it will be managed either to give it a new life or to recover it energetically.

This step forward has to do with the environmental awareness with which decisions are made in the company, and is made possible by concrete advances that have been developed in three areas: land, waste and plastic.

The soil that comes with the potato and that is separated in the process will be incorporated into a compost that the authorised manager Recuperaciones Iscar, a company dedicated to recycling and the environment, is going to produce using waste from various companies. The formula for this compost has already been registered with the Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Castilla y León.

The waste will undergo an energy recovery process. This will convert waste that cannot be recycled into energy. The plastic from the

compactor, consisting mainly of nets, belts and straps, will also undergo the same process.

This is another example of Meléndez’s commitment to environmental protection, taking care of the environment and processes with commitment and determination.
