The Plan, which will last for three years and will benefit the entire workforce of 389 workers, has been agreed within the Equality Commission, created in 2019, and formed equally by three representatives of the company’s management and as many legal representatives of the workers in proportion to the company’s trade union representation and appointed by the trade union confederations. This Committee will also be responsible for annually reviewing the implementation and effectiveness of the measures envisaged.
The CEO of Patatas Meléndez, Javier Meléndez, has expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of the Equality Plan and sees it as an opportunity. “With our Plan we want to advance in our commitment to society as a whole, because it affects all of us, and in this way we will contribute to improving not only Patatas Meléndez internally, but we will strengthen and promote society in general in favour of the equal opportunities that society deserves”.
The Plan establishes various measures to make work more flexible with the aim of facilitating work-life balance and co-responsibility. Specifically, it establishes the possibility of taking a reduced working day to care for a child, accumulated if someone requests it. In addition, flexible working hours will be provided for those workers who need to accompany their children or relatives up to the 2nd degree of consanguinity to medical appointments.
Patatas Meléndez, as established in the Plan, will promote the incorporation of women in positions or areas where there is a lower representation of women and will therefore use different ways to attract talent. In addition, in order to review this action, disaggregated data on men and women by type of hiring will be available each year.
To encourage and facilitate internal promotion, the company undertakes to publicise all job offers through the different communication channels. In promotions in those categories where there is no representation of either sex, in equality of merit and ability and aptitude, the person who is not represented will be hired or promoted. In addition, the participation of women in training for internal promotion will be encouraged.
In the area of training, at least 20 hours of training in equality are planned for all those involved in the company’s selection processes, middle management and trade union representatives on the Equality Committee.
With regard to occupational health, the company undertakes to draw up and apply action protocols for the prevention and punishment of sexual and gender-based harassment and to review the risk assessment from a gender perspective.
Patatas Meléndez undertakes to inform and disseminate the contents of the agreed Equality Plan to all workers, as well as to carry out information and awareness-raising campaigns on existing reconciliation measures.
